DSPOSABLE BOOGIE BOARDS BANNED IN MAUI COUNTY:
A Maui County law banning the sale, rental and distribution of disposable
polystyrene bodyboards was enacted in August of 2022.
The law was an amendment to the Maui County’s 2011 plastic
bag ban and its purpose is to limit the number of bodyboards
discarded on the county’s beaches. Disposable bodyboards are not
durable and when they break or chip small bits of polystyrene are
released into the ocean and washed up on the beach. Note that Maui County includes the islands of Maui, Molokai and Lanai.
