EVENT: 4th Ironman World Championship Triathlon

DESCRIPTION: Nautilus Fitnessw Gym owner Valerie Silk
took over ownership if the Ironman Triathlon in 1881
and sahe moved the event fron
from Oahu island to the west side of Hawaii Island.
The entry fee was $25.00, 326 people started (including 22 women)
and 299 people finished.
The winners were
John Howard with a time of 9 hours, 38 minutes,
and 29 seconds and Linda Sweeny with a time of 12 hours and 32 seconds.
Former winner Dave Scott was injured and did not participate iin 1981.
73 year old Walt Stack finished in 26 hours and 20 minutes
making him the oldest competitor and setting a record
or the longest finish time.
