United States national historic landmarks (NHLs) are historic properties that illustrate the history of the United States. The U.S. National Park Service (NPS) manages the nomination process for new national historic landmarks and the official Web sites of existing NHLs are sub-sections of the nps.gov Web site. There are more than 2,600 NHLs in the United States and four of them are located on the island of Kauai.
