Outside of Maui County hotel zone districts there are short-term vacation rentals that have received permits to operate under Maui County bed and breakfast category permits.
All of those bed and breakfast operations are required to
1. have the owner (or lessee or manager in some cases)
live on-site or within the bed and breakfast home
2. all parking is required to be onsite (no parking on the street)
3. all advertising must include the bed and breakfast permit number
Serving Breakfast Is Not Required:
Note that serving breakfast or providing breakfast foods
is not a requirement of receiving a Maui County bed and breakfast
permit. Some of the permitted B&B operations do
serve breakfast or stock units with breakfast foods
but many of them do not.
Some Seem More Like Vacation Homes, Cottages or Apartments:
Note that sometimes the only thing differentiating
a permitted Maui County bed and breakfast rental
from a permitted short term vacation home (STVH) or
permitted transient vacation rental (TVR)
is the fact that an owner, lesee or manager
lives on the property.
