A demolition contract to remove the stairs was awarded
to The Nakoa Companies in August of 2023.

On August. 29, 2023 the City and County of Honolulu announced that
it awarded a $2.5 million demolition contract to The Nakoa Companies,
the company who repaired the stairs under a previous administration.
